Lantern Festival 2026: Horse-Themed Joy Lights Up China

HANGZHOU, March 3, 2026

China marked the 2026 Lantern Festival on Tuesday, the 15th day of the first lunar month. As the grand finale of the Spring Festival, it celebrates the first full moon of the Year of the Horse and embodies the core value of tuanyuan (family reunion).

Cities glowed with festive lantern displays, where horse-shaped lanterns stole the spotlight. In Hangzhou, West Lake was lined with luminous galloping horse installations, symbolizing vitality, speed and success in Chinese culture. Families gathered to admire the lights, join dengmi (lantern riddle guessing) and watch lively dragon and lion dances, creating a warm, joyful atmosphere.

A staple of the celebration is yuanxiao, sweet glutinous rice balls. This year, creative horse-shaped yuanxiao were widely popular, adding a fun zodiac touch to the traditional treat that represents harmony and completeness.

The festival’s charm has extended globally, with Chinese communities overseas also holding lantern fairs and parades to share the culture.

As the Lantern Festival draws to a close, we extend our warmest wishes to our valued customers worldwide. May the light of the lanterns guide you to new opportunities, and may the spirit of the Year of the Horse bring you prosperity, smooth cooperation and lasting success in the year ahead. We look forward to galloping forward together with you!
